General Description

The Youth Minister Coordinator (director) is a member of the parish staff who provides primary leadership for the design and implementation of parish ministry to its youth. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a youth program for middle school students.
  • Plan and implement a youth program for high school students.
  • Coordinate events, retreats, trips, mission trips, conferences for youth.
  • Organize and supervise suitable fundraising activities for youth ministry.
  • Schedule and oversee Baccalaureate Mass.
  • Organize the youth to lead the Stations of the Cross during the Lenten season.
  • Recruit adult leaders to maintain adequate supervision and provide for safety at all times. Ensure that all leaders and volunteers are compliant with the Diocese of Knoxville safe environment program.
  • Ensure that all Diocese of Knoxville safe environment procedures are followed at all events and when working with the youth of the parish.
  • Prepare a yearly budget for all youth related activities and follow the set budget.
  • Work with the Diocese of Knoxville youth ministry office in keeping up to date on diocesan activities.
  • Promote Diocese of Knoxville youth events to youth of parish.
  • Promote events in the parish pertaining to youth ministry.
  • All youth programs must be in conformity with Catholic teaching.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Where appropriate, refer youth and parents to suitable updated reading and resource materials for youth spiritual and catechetical information and enrichment.
  • Recruit Youth for active participation in the life of the Parish
  • Maintain current catechist and youth ministry Diocesan certification and attend formation programs when appropriate to the Ministry.

Qualifications

  • Active member of the Roman Catholic Church with the knowledge and ability to share the Catholic faith.
  • Paraprofessional helping/counseling listening skills, crisis intervention and referral skills, group processing and facilitation skills.
  • Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, planning and budgeting.
  • Ability to design and implement a variety of youth oriented programs.
  • Ability to work with parents and children of all ages.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in parish youth ministry.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Certification in Youth Ministry preferred
  • Knowledge of adolescent/preteen spiritual/personal development, youth cultures and sociology.
