Our parish has many ministries that serve both our parishioners and the larger Johnson City community. Here, we highlight two of our largest ministries that reach beyond our parish: the Food Pantry and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Our Food Pantry serves more than 300 households each month, providing food to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances. The Pantry is supported by generous donations of food and financial gifts, along with volunteers who collect, sort, pack and distribute food. In addition to the drive-through distribution held on the first and third Saturdays of each month, the Pantry supports group homes for women transitioning from homelessness and substance abuse and women who have experienced domestic violence. It also provides food to residents of a low-income senior apartment community and international students at ETSU.
Our chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul provides financial assistance to individuals and families struggling with basic living expenses. Volunteers work directly with those in need, offering practical assistance and a personal connection during difficult times. For many facing rising rental and utility costs, this support can be a lifeline. In FY 2026, SVDP provided assistance in the amount of $106,668 to 545 people in need.
Reaching into the international community, the Twinning Program supports the Visitation Hospital in Petite Riviere de Nippes, Haiti, where local citizens can receive much needed healthcare. In FY 2026, the Twinning Program donated $10,000 to this lifesaving cause.
We are grateful to everyone who gives their time, talent and financial resources. Through these ministries, St. Mary’s puts our faith into action and reminds us that even a small act of generosity can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
Our Youth, Our Future
St. Mary’s School is our largest ministry an important part of our parish family where faith, knowledge and character blend together. During FY 2026, 161 students were part of our school community, receiving an education that goes beyond the classroom. Catholic education forms the whole person by developing students academically, spiritually and morally while training them to love and serve others.
Our students are surrounded by teachers, families and a parish community that encourage them to grow in faith, make good choices and treat others with compassion and dignity. The lessons learned through prayer, worship, service and Catholic formation will remain with them long after they leave our school, helping guide their decisions, relationships and careers throughout their lives.
Our commitment to our youth extends beyond our school. Our Youth Ministry brings 128 of our young parishioners, 6th through 12th grade, together each week to learn, pray, worship and grow in their relationship with Christ. The Youth Ministry provides a place where young people build friendships, ask questions and learn how to live their faith in the outside world.
For our younger children, Vacation Bible School offers another opportunity to learn in a fun and welcoming environment. Children learn about the Catholic faith through engaging activities, games and crafts while building friendships and growing in their love for the church. Through these experiences, children discover that following Jesus can be joyful, meaningful and part of their everyday lives.
Our youth are not simply the future of St. Mary’s; they are an important part of our parish today and the future of the Catholic Church. We are deeply grateful to our parishioners who invest their time, talent and treasure in the faith formation of our young people. Your generosity helps plant seeds of faith that will take root and flourish throughout their lives. Some of those seeds will remain here at St. Mary’s, while others will travel to new parishes, communities and places where God calls our young people to serve. By investing in our youth, we are investing in the future of mankind.
Our Parish, Our Family
We are deeply grateful to the St. Mary’s parishioners for your generosity, faith and continued commitment to our parish family. Through your prayers, time, talent and treasure, you make possible the many ministries, programs and services that allow our parish community to worship, grow and serve as a vibrant Eucharistic community.
With 1,525 registered households representing 4,054 parishioners, our parish family continues to grow in faith, unity and service. Each week, an average of 1,711people gather for Mass, while approximately 560 households support the parish through the offertory.
Your generosity makes it possible to celebrate 19 Masses each week in English, Spanish and Latin and welcome people from diverse backgrounds into our parish.
Your support also makes our sacramental and faith formation ministries possible. During FY 2026, we celebrated 72 infant Baptisms, 13 minor Baptisms and 16 adult Baptisms, along with 36 First Communions, 56 Confirmations, and 25 Marriages. Through our Becoming Catholic program, 48 persons entered the church.
Your generosity also allows us to maintain and improve our buildings and beautiful campus. This year, we replaced aging HVAC systems, entered into needed maintenance agreements, added new security cameras and addressed landscaping needs. We also made significant school improvements, including new flooring and painting, which was a needed facelift to make the interior more inviting for the students and

Financial Report Notes
The Parish Finance Council provides an annual financial report to promote transparency and accountability. This is your money and you deserve to know how it is used. We are committed to being good stewards of the resources entrusted to us and to using them wisely and responsibly in support of our parish mission.
The parish recorded a net income of $324,009 in FY 2026, compared with $477,862 in FY 2025, a decrease of $153,853. The primary difference was the significantly greater level of capital expenditure in FY 2026. While FY 2025 capital spending focused more heavily on maintenance and necessary repairs, FY 2026 included several larger projects that improved and strengthened our building and campus. It is significant to note that the parish can fund everything through operations and that we have no debt!
Total receipts increased from $2,945,874 in FY 2025 to $3,170,937 in FY 2026, an increase of $225,063, or 7.6%. The increase was driven primarily by school tuition and fees, which increased $293,005. We benefited from the Tennessee Educational Freedom Scholarship Program, which provided recipients of the program with a voucher in the amount of $7,295, which was paid directly to the school on behalf of the student. These funds helped decrease the church contribution to the school to $183,006, down from $323,796 in the prior year.
Total expenses increased from $2,468,012 to $2,846,928, an increase of $378,916. Major capital expenditures included approximately $130,000 paid toward church HVAC project, which was installed in FY 2025 and approximately $108,000 toward the $225,000 school renovation project. The rectory’s original air-conditioning units were also replaced at the cost of approximately $23,500.
The Tuesday Work Crew, a group of dedicated volunteers, reduced project costs through their labor and expertise. Their service, along with the generosity of our parishioners, allowed St. Mary’s to make substantial investments in our facilities, which support our growing parish.
